The Shannon Rodgers and Jerry Silverman School of Fashion Design and Merchandising at Kent State University invites applications for a full-time tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Fashion Merchandising. This is a 9-month appointment with the possibility of summer teaching, contingent upon enrollment and availability of funds.
Housed within the College of the Arts, the School of Fashion is designated an Ohio Center of Excellence and is currently ranked #1 in the Midwest; #6 in the United States, and within the top 25 globally. Our programs enroll approximately 1400 undergraduate majors in Fashion Merchandising (B.S.) and Design (B.A./B.F.A.). Our team includes 32 full time faculty members serving the undergraduate programs on the Kent campus as well as the interdisciplinary Masters in Fashion Industry Studies (MFIS) graduate program.
The School of Fashion has strong ties to the fashion industry, and is globally connected with campus locations in Florence, Italy, and New York City, as well as study away programs in Paris, London, South Korea, and LA. Our state-of-the-art facilities include an innovative TechStyleLAB and a pioneering digital KnitLAB with advanced industry-grade flatbed knitting technology. Our Kent State University Museum houses world-renowned collections and serves as a unique resource available to students and faculty. Responsibilities include:
- Teaching graduate and undergraduate course(s);
- Establishing and maintaining a productive research program with refereed scholarship (peer-reviewed publications/ conferences), and potential for extramural grants;
- Conducting original research on relevant fashion industry issues
- Performing appropriate service at school, college, university, community, and national/international professional organizations commensurate with rank;
Required Minimum Qualifications:
- Earned Terminal Degree in Fashion, Apparel and Textiles, or related fields. Terminal degree must be earned by the start date.
- Evidence of successful teaching, preferably at the university level, with expertise in:
- Fashion Retail Technology
- Merchandise Planning and Buying
- Research Methods and Predictive Analysis
- Product Management and Supply Chain
- Evidence of research/creative activity relevant to fashion
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience with/potential for successful grant funding
- Evidence of industry experience
- Ability to evolve in a highly interdisciplinary and inclusive research ecosystem
- Ability to integrate diversity/multicultural perspective into teaching and research
- Ability to integrate innovative technologies and pedagogical techniques in the classroom.
- Experience with synchronous or asynchronous online teaching
